When it comes to aging skin, there are a number of forces at play, which means there’s no easy, single solution for erasing or reducing the effects the years have had on your skin. But there are simple treatments that complement each other perfectly, giving your skin a brighter, more youthful look in no time at all.

Between Botox and dermal fillers, these cosmetic injectables deliver a powerful combination punch that tackles aging skin from two different approaches, leaving you with fuller, smoother skin.

Here at Vermont Med Spa, many of our Los Angeles area clients take advantage of a combination treatment of Botox and dermal fillers, which we can administer at the same time. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Imad El Asmar, we can turn back the years in under an hour.

Here’s a look at what these injectables can do for you.

A face divided

As you age, there are several things going on beneath your skin that lead to wrinkles and sagging skin.

One of the main culprits behind aging skin is the loss of collagen, the connective fibers that provide your skin’s foundation, tone, and elasticity. With each passing year, your collagen production naturally declines, meaning your skin doesn’t bounce back the way it once did.

After years of smiling, squinting, and even chewing, these facial movements begin to leave behind well-worn paths in your skin in the form of fine lines and wrinkles that your collagen production can no longer keep up with, especially on the top half of your face.

As your collagen wanes, the thin layer of fat beneath the surface of your skin also begins to drift downward and disappear, leaving behind a hollow, sunken appearance, particularly on the lower half of your face.

Between the two effects, you’re left with telltale signs of the passing years on both the upper and lower halves of your face.

Starting from the top

With a combination treatment, we start with Botox on the top half of your face where most of your wrinkles are. Botox is a neuromodulator that goes straight to the source of your fine lines and wrinkles — your muscles.

With Botox, we temporarily paralyze the muscles that contract and distort your skin, leaving the surface of your skin unperturbed. Botox is extremely effective against moderate to severe crow’s feet, frown lines, and forehead lines.

Botox works for four to six months, after which time you simply return for another treatment.

The bottom up

The loss of fat we spoke of earlier is the primary driver behind the signs of aging in the lower half of your face. As fat vacates the area, you’re left with sunken cheeks and deep lines around either side of your mouth (also called your parentheses lines).

Fat loss also affects your lips, leaving them thinner and more prone to small vertical lines surrounding them.

With dermal fillers, we inject hyaluronic acid — a natural substance already found in your body — into these areas to restore youthful volume that plumps and fills in the lines. These fillers help you regain those cherub cheeks, as well as smoother, fuller lips. And we can reduce those deep lines that run from your nose around your mouth considerably.

Dermal fillers typically last from 18 months to two years as your body slowly absorbs the hyaluronic acid. At that point, you simply come back in for a “refill.”

The advantages of this powerful combination treatment are considerable, especially if you want immediate results without resorting to more invasive procedures. Not to mention, we can do both in just one visit.
